Learning about Business made me less Cynical

Or, on interdisciplinary thinking.

I'm writing from my kitchen table, which has historically been one of my favorite places to write. There's cello music in the background, and I'm about to hit my 3 pm slump.

When I was younger, even in some of my early popular writing, I think I lobbed around critiques of industrialization without really understanding what industrialization is. Now that I've gotten older, I can sort of look back and laugh at myself and understand that "the development of an industry" is not a bad thing. But you want to make sure that what you're developing is good or that the industry you're in is one you like and are proud of.

I consider Hot Literati to be in the self-development space because I want anyone who engages with our brand to walk away feeling smarter, hotter, and more capable of achieving their dreams. As I've embraced entrepreneurship and learned so much more about business and economics, I've begun to appreciate so many more things. I've become a cheerleader of anyone starting a side hustle or a new venture, when a younger more insecure version of myself may have seen it as competition. I'm more curious about everything and I can hold my own in conversations that went over my head a year or so ago.

It's extremely satisfying to learn, especially to learn something that you thought was out of your scope. The human brain is phenomenal. You can learn anything and the more that you learn the more magical the world becomes, the more you can participate in more conversations with so many people.

I got my lip threaded today, on my way home with a few apples and a carton of eggs.

"I like the cowgirl boots" a man yelled from a group huddling on the corner.

"Thank you," I said, over my shoulder.

And as I entered the salon, I saw that the walls were now pink and the giant counter on the mirrored wall was gone.

"It's so different," I said, to a woman behind the register that I'd never been before, even though I've been coming here for years.

"More space, right?" she said, smiling, "new owners."

A younger version of me would have scoffed in the face of change, even a small one like this, but instead, I found myself excited for the new owners. Building a business is no small undertaking and they hit the ground running with pink and a new name.

I'm excited to see what happens, which is one of my favorite attitudes towards life to have.
