Weird Girl Winter Rituals

Hiii. Yesterday I re-read and annotated Audre Lorde’s essay Uses of the Erotic. Her writing almost always remains in that state of beauty and elusivity, so of course, there are concepts and sentences I am still grappling with. Nonetheless, the way she uses words to worship eroticism and its nature reminded me of my own personal practices….acting like a beautiful animal, making myself feel like a housewife awaiting a charming husband to motivate me to clean, and meditating to slow music in the dark while I shower. Check out the rituals we’ve listed below! (some erotic, some not)....Maybe they’ll inspire you to tap into a part of yourself you’ve repressed or make daily life more exciting/aesthetically pleasing. Here are our most favorite rituals for you to participate in this Weird Girl Winter:

  • Crawling on your floor like a panther, nightly

  • Reading stream of consciousness literature in the morning and erotica at night

  • Cleaning in a lingerie/pinup dress

  • Showering in the dark with jazz playing on a speaker

  • Writing a poem about your dream(s) the second you wake up

  • Painting your toenails while sitting on the bathroom floor

  • Host weekly dance parties with your friends and have everyone put their phones in a box

  • Writing letters to strangers and putting them in library books

  • Using lace as a bookmark
